Before hopping or clicking into a store for buying newborn clothes, what most of us have in our minds is that the clothes we select should make our baby look adorable. Unfortunately, this is the ONLY idea with which we start our shopping and the idea sticks to our head till the end of our shopping trip. What most of us need to realize is that newborn clothes is more than just what is on the outside.
To begin with, newborn clothes are about comfort and safety. Yes SAFETY. You may ask how clothes can be unsafe. Well, when it cones to newborns, wrong choice of clothes can indeed prove to be unsafe. For example if you buy a polo neck shirt for your baby and though it fits perfectly, it can turn unsafe if it causes choking, by disallowing him or her to turn his/her neck from one direction to another, especially while sleeping.
Dresses on which buttons or zippers are not sewn well enough can also cause trouble. Since newborns keep lying on their backs most of the time it is advisable that buttons and zippers are totally avoided. In case they are there, notice their placing. They should not prick the baby.
Do not forget to check, (preferably by feeling with your hands and fingers) the brand tag (if any), especially on the inner-back side of the dress. Just like in the case of adult clothes, these can create trouble in newborn clothes as well, biting into the infant’s tender skin, causing itching and pricking.
The design of the clothes should also be selected wisely. Though sometimes it is indeed difficult to resist the fancy designs, it is generally best to opt for clothes that are not too fancy. Take frilly frocks for example. Though frilly frocks are great options for girl infants, these frocks with too many frills and laces are probably not. The baby may want to keep tugging at the laces, or chewing the strings of the frock. Hence the best clothes are those that look stylish and at the same time are easy to handle. The same rule applies for newborn shoes, socks, etc as well.
Opt for clothes in soft smooth fabrics that are easy to wear. Since we are talking about newborn clothes, we cannot forget the fact that newborns tend to sleep most of the time. Therefore, clothes that can be changed into, without disturbing the sleep as less as possible are great options. For example, pants with comfortable elastics can be better options than pants with a button and a zipper. In fact elastic, as long as not too tight, is one the best things that can be used on newborn's clothes. They do not hurt, and are more comfortable to wear and change into.
While buying newborn clothes prefer those fabrics that are not just comfortable, but are also easy to clean. After all you don’t want to experience nightmares trying to remove baby food from all over the place off the clothes.
Select newborn clothes with care and you won’t have to face a crying irritable baby in your arms!
